Officials ask parents of prospective kindergarten students to call the school office at 394-4323 to schedule a testing/registration appointment with a teacher. While the teachers are visiting and testing the child, the office will help parents fill out registration forms and copy documents.
Registration times this week are from noon until 6 p.m. Wednesday and noon until 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
If parents do not register their children this month, they will have to wait until August, officials said.
To register, parents must provide the school with the following items:
• A state-certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, which can be obtained from the Howard County Courthouse or state the child was born in. A hospital issue certificate of birth is not a legal document.
• An updated, valid immunization record (shot record).
• A social security card for each child.
• Legal guardian’s state driver’s license or state issued identification card.
• Proof of residency.
If parents do not have a student attending Coahoma schools at this time, please go by the school district's Administration Office to get a proof of residency form. Parents are asked to provide one of the following items: Receipts for tax or utility bill/deposit; deed /mortgage/lease papers; or a notarized letter confirming residency when living with another household.
Students currently enrolled in the district’s pre-kindergarten program are automatically registered for kindergarten.
New information sheets will be sent home on the first day of school. The student’s permanent folder, which contains the student’s birth certificate and immunization record will be moved to the next grade level. Therefore, there is no need for parents of current pre-kindergarteners to attend the kindergarten registration May 12-14, officials said.
Please call the school if you have a pre-kindergarten student and officials will get you on the registration list.
For additional information regarding registration, please contact the elementary school at 394-4323.
