SMMC recognizes volunteers at awards banquet
Saturday, 16 May 2009
KC Steakhouse was the site of the 2009 Award Banquet for the Scenic Mountain Medical Center Volunteer Program, held May 4. The luncheon served to recognize the outstanding contributions volunteers make to the hospital and to award “Hour Bars” and tenure pins. New officers were also inducted during the event.

Volunteer Lou Hill has given more than 30 years and 18,500 hours of service to SMMC. Loma Jean Wynn was recognized for 15,000 hours of service, while Ruth Manuel and Linda Sliger have each served more than 10,000 hours.

Five individuals received pins representative of milestones of service, including:

20 years — Lynda Sliger

10 years — Glendia Brown, Betty Daly

5 years — Mozelle Osborne. Dorothy Stovall

During the past year, these and other dedicated volunteers have contributed 14,712 hours, providing invaluable services for the patients, family members and staff at SMMC. More than 30 volunteers work during any given month.  While some may spend as few as three or four hours, others give as many as 40 to 50 hours per month.

“We appreciate the volunteers and the time they so willingly contribute. Our volunteer program is one of the many things that make Scenic Mountain a great place for people to work, for physicians to practice medicine and for patients to receive care,” said George Parsley, CEO at SMMC.

To inquire about becoming a SMMC Volunteer, contact Volunteer Service Director Anita Cline at (432) 268-4721.
