By ALEX NEWSOM Herald Intern COAHOMA — Coahoma Independent School District school buses did not run Wednesday morning due to vandalism that was discovered at 6 a.m.
Fire extinguishers located on every bus had been set off, the hoods were up and the dipsticks were pulled on all 20 of the buses. Superintendent Randy Brown said in addition to cleaning up the buses, all of the engines were inspected and the oil changed as a safety precaution. “We contacted the media to announce that we wouldn't run routes and to let parents know that if they couldn't get their kids to school, we would go pick them up. Despite our worries, attendance was good. We really appreciate the parents stepping up and allowing this to be just another school day,” said Brown. The school buses are already up and running for the afternoon, so the morning routes for Thursday are unaffected. The agricultural shop was also vandalized with various condiments, mostly ketchup and mustard; and at the pre-kindergarten's playground, a slide was broken and spray paint was used. According to Brown, the administration has no suspects at this time. He has contacted the Howard County Crime Stoppers, and says that a reward will be offered, though the amount has not been determined. Howard County Crime Stoppers can be reached at 263-TIPS (8477) or 264-TIPS (8477).
