Robbery suspect sought
Friday, 03 July 2009

Officials with the Big Spring Police Department say they are investigating the Thursday afternoon robbery of the Cinemark 4 movie theater, located in the Big Spring Mall.

According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer for the BSPD, police officers responded to the theater shortly after 12 p.m.

“On arrival the officers contacted the manager of the movie theater,” said Everett. “He told the officers a black, male subject had entered the business and asked if he was the manager. When he told the subject he was, the suspect told him he wanted to make a complaint. The manager led the suspect to his office.

“Before they got to the office, the suspect put his hand in the pocket of his hoodie jacket and said he had a gun. Once they were in the office, the suspect told the manager to open the safe.”

Everett said the robber took an undetermined amount of cash from the theater's safe before assaulting the manager.

“The suspect struck the manager in the stomach, grabbed the office phone and fled,” said Everett. “He was last seen exiting the main doors to the mall into the mall parking lot.”

Everett said the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 15 to 17 years in age, standing 5 feet 5 inches tall with a skinny build. He was wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, black shorts, black shoes and a black baseball cap.

“The victim was not seriously injured and did not require medical attention,” said Everett. “Through the ordeal, he was unable to see a weapon. There were other employees in the business at the time of the robbery, but none of them had contact with the suspect.”

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 264-TIPS (8477), 263-TIPS, or the BSPD at 264-2550.
