Altercation lands two in lockup

By THOMAS JENKINS
Staff Writer
Two local women were arrested and a juvenile treated for minor injuries Thursday night following an altercation in the Wal-Mart SuperCenter parking lot.

Marlana Rose Beasley, 20, of 3705 Calvin was arrested and charged with criminal mischief — more than $50, less than $500, disorderly conduct — fighting and injury to a child at approximately 8:45 p.m., according to police records. Also arrested was Shelli Lynn Buck, 33, of 1101 E. 15th St., who was also charged with disorderly conduct — fighting.

According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the Big Spring Police Department, a fight broke out between the two women in the parking lot of the local retailer.

“Apparently the two women have a problem with jealousy of some sort,” said Everett. “The altercation turned violent and the two women fought. Then, at some point in the fight, Beasley shoved Buck's juvenile daughter to the ground, causing minor injuries. My understanding is she was transported to a hospital by private vehicle, treated and released.

“Because the child is a minor and she was attacked by an adult, the charges are pretty serious, regardless of the extent of her injuries.”

Everett said neither of the women arrested were seriously injured or transported for medical care. And while the case of flared tempers may seem straight-forward, Everett said there's still a part of the case investigators are working on.

“When police officers arrived on the scene, there was a man at the scene talking to one of the women,” said Everett. “Witnesses later said the man had identified himself as a police officer during the course of the fight. When the witnesses later asked to see a badge, the man couldn't produce one.”

Everett said a report of impersonating a public servant was reported as a result of the man's actions, but no arrests have been made at this time.

“We're still investigating the matter. The man has not yet been arrested,” said Everett, who declined to release the name of the individual.
