By BILL McCLELLAN News Editor John Giordano will be the guest speaker for the Big Spring Symphony Association's 2009-2010 season kickoff dinner Thursday at Big Spring Country Club.
Giordano, who will also conduct Saturday's “Symphonic Classics in the Movies” concert at Big Spring High School auditorium, is familiar to the local symphony scene. “Maestro Giordano has had a very colorful and interesting career, working with many of the world's premier orchestras and artists,” said Dr. Keith Graumann, conductor and music director of the Big Spring Symphony. “It's always wonderful to have him in Big Spring.” Thursday's dinner will get under way at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, payable to the Big Spring Symphony Association. Tea, coffee and water will be provided. Adult beverages will also be available. To RSVP, contact Suzanne Markwell at (432) 268-9335. Season tickets will be offered at the dinner, as will sponsorships. The theme of this year's concert series is “Moving On.” Additional performances will be “A Symphonic Christmas” Dec. 19 at Trinity Baptist Church, “Symphony in Motion” Feb. 20 in the high school auditorium and “Symphony Pops Extravaganza” March 27 at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum, featuring entertainer and song writer Paul Williams.
