By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer Investigators with the Big Spring Police Department can add two more aggravated robberies to their case load, as stickup men hit a pair of local businesses early Tuesday evening and early this morning.
According to Lonnie Smith, chief of police with the BSPD, an aggravated robbery was reported at the Scottish Inn — formerly the Mayo Ranch Motel — located in the 1200 block of Third Street Tuesday around 6:45 p.m. “A suspect walked in and presented a handgun and demanded money,” said Smith. “The suspect was a Hispanic male with a beard, wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans. The victim complied and the suspect left the business on foot.” Smith said no injuries were reported as a result of the holdup and the suspect made away with an undetermined amount of cash. Police officials are also investigating a robbery at the Sun Laundry, located in the 1500 block of Lancaster. “The robbery was reported at 6:45 a.m. today,” said Smith. “In this case, the suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 4 inches in height wearing a black T-shirt and shorts. The suspect made away from the location on foot with an undetermined amount of cash, and no injuries were reported as a result of the crime.” Smith confirmed no arrests have been made in either case at this time. These two most recent robberies join several others reported at local 7-Eleven convenience store locations during the past several weeks, but according to Smith, aren't likely connected to the 7-Eleven robberies. “Our investigation has led us to believe the 7-Eleven robberies are connected,” said Smith. “I don't believe the two robberies reported today and yesterday are connected to those, and whether or not they are connected to each other, it's really too early to tell.” Robberies have been reported at the Wasson Road and FM 700 7-Eleven convenience stores during the past two weeks. The suspect in those cases was described as a white male, approximately 5-feet 8-inches tall wearing a hoodie jacket Anyone with information on these or any other crime can contact the BSPD at 264-2550 or Big Spring Crimestoppers at 264-TIPS (8477).
