By STEVE REAGAN Staff Writer COAHOMA — Even as Coahoma Independent School District officials look forward to completion of construction work on their campuses, they are also are thinking about what will come next.
When school trustees hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, they not only will get an update on existing projects, but will begin making plans for future improvements. The two-year, district-wide renovation project is nearing completion, with only a few individual tasks remaining, Superintendent Randy Brown said. The biggest job still remaining is demolition of a classroom wing at the north side of the high school, then the construction of parking lots at both the high school and junior high. When the overall project is completed, officials will look for ways to best maintain and add on to those improvements. “As the project finishes up, in January and February a committee will get together and decide what are most pressing needs and wants are,” Brown said. “Just because this project is about to be finished doesn't mean that we are finished.” Instead, the committee will look at several possible future projects to improve the overall look of the campuses, he noted. “We need to do some landscaping, things like that,” he said. “These will not be big-ticket items, but things we can do out of the local budget. We have some really nice facilities. Now, we're going to make sure they stay that way.” Also Thursday, trustees will discuss a possible project by personnel with Atmos Energy that could result in new bleachers at the baseball field. “They contacted me and indicated they'd like to do a service project within the district,” Brown said. “One idea was adding some bleachers to the baseball field ... We'll see if we can get some supplies donated. If we can, Atmos will supply the labor for the project.” In other business Thursday, trustees will consider: • Personnel matters. • Revenue and expenditure reports. • Superintendent's report.
