By STEVE REAGAN Staff Writer A Big Spring holiday tradition will celebrate its 31st incarnation when First United Methodist Church hosts the Living Christmas Tree Saturday and Sunday.
Performances open to the public include a dress rehearsal at 2 p.m. Saturday and a pair of 8 p.m. concerts Saturday and Sunday. The event is free to the public, but organizers ask those wishing to attend to obtain tickets from the church's main office at Fourth and Scurry streets. No tickets are required for the Saturday dress rehearsal. The Living Christmas Tree, for the uninitiated, is exactly that — a multi-story tall, 2,000-pound Christmas tree populated by more than 70 singers dressed as ornaments. While the event will be familiar to those who have attended before, the program is tweaked every year to provide something new. Aside from long-time classics, newer holiday standards will be performed. The theme for this year's concert is “This is Christmas.” Aside from the adult choir, an orchestra, children's chorus and bell choir is scheduled to perform both religious and popular Christmas standards. Linda Lindell, a part-time music instructor with Big Spring Independent School District, will direct this year's program. For more information, contact the church at 267-6394.
