By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer A Big Spring youth remains in custody after confessing to a pair of burglaries at the local YMCA, while two Howard College students have been arrested after being linked to a series of vehicle burglaries near the junior college's dorms.
According to Sgt. Tony Everett, a 16-year-old Big Spring juvenile was arrested Wednesday and charged with burglarizing the YMCA Nov. 23 and Nov. 24. “The suspect — a 16-year-old Big Spring juvenile — was arrested and charged with both burglaries,” said Everett. “Detectives received a tip through Crimestoppers, and while following up on that tip the suspect was questioned and confessed to both cases. Some of the stolen property has been recovered and the juvenile remains in the custody of the juvenile detention center. The investigation is still under way.” Everett declined to release the name of the suspect due to him being a minor. Investigators with the BSPD also made arrests this week in a series of vehicle burglaries reported near the Howard College dorms, according to Everett. “Just after midnight Wednesday patrol officers were investigating a series of vehicle burglaries at the Howard College dorms,” said Everett. “Several vehicles in the parking lot had been vandalized. During the investigation officers arrested three students, two males who were in possession of stolen property and a female subject on an unrelated charge.” Arrested were Anthony J. Maldonado, 18, of Illinois, charged with 13 counts of burglary of a vehicle and one count of theft; and Nicholas R. Bolleter, 18, of San Antonio, who was also charged with 13 counts of burglary of a vehicle and one count of theft. “During the course of the morning 11 vehicle burglaries were reported in the east part of the city, including Howard College,” said Everett. “As of now, officers believe the vehicle burglaries are all related. The investigation is ongoing and officers expect to file more charges. Also, more arrests are possible as suspects are located. Some property has been recovered and officers are hoping to recover more before the investigation is over.” Everett said a third arrest has been made in the case, as 19-year-old Mark Clinton Roberson of Plano was taken into custody and charged with theft – more than $1,500, less than $20,000. Law enforcement officials said more charges against Roberson, who denied taking part in the burglaries but was in possession of stolen items, are likely to come.
