By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer Officials with the Big Spring Police Department say they have solved several more of the aggravated robberies that plagued the city in November, as the recent arrest of a Big Spring man continues to uncover evidence.
Ricardo Castillo, 31, was arrested at his home Nov. 23 in the 800 block of E. 14th Street and charged with several counts of aggravated robbery including the gunpoint robbery of a local woman in a church parking lot Nov. 22. According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer for the BSPD, Castillo was charged with the Nov. 13 aggravated robbery at the Camlot Inn, located in the 2900 block of E. Interstate Highway 20; the Nov. 13 aggravated robbery at the Motel 6, located in the 600 block of W. Interstate Highway 20; the Nov. 22 aggravated robbery of the Shell Station in Stanton; and the May beating and robbery of an elderly veteran. “Following his arrest on several charges of aggravated robbery last week, detectives continued to investigate Castillo,” said Everett. “In all, detectives have charged him with seven counts of aggravated robbery.” Castillo was charged in several aggravated robberies when he was arrested, including: • Nov. 11, 7:40 a.m., 1500 block of Lancaster (Sun Laundry). According to police reports, the suspect entered the business, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene on foot. • Nov. 16, a residence in the 2300 block of Old Highway 80. The suspect knocked on the victim's door and claimed he was having car problems and needed to use a telephone. The victim turned to get the telephone and the suspect put a handgun to his chest and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene on foot. • Nov. 22, in the 2100 block of Lancaster (Iglesia Bautista Church). A man matching Castillo's description attempted to take the 54-year-old woman's purse at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Iglesia Bautista Central church. The woman began frantically honking her car's horn, drawing a pair of men from the church to her rescue. The two men chased the suspect to a tan-colored, small-size pickup believed to be a Ford Ranger parked nearby. Everett said there are still several aggravated robbery cases detectives are investigating, as the law enforcement agency looks to clear up the rash of robberies that began Oct. 31 and racked up nearly a dozen incidents in less than three weeks.
