By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-Lubbock) recently announced he will run for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives during what he describes as a “critical time” in this nation's history.
"It has been my distinct honor to serve you in Congress and I ask the voters of West Texas and the Big Country for the opportunity to continue to be their representative in Washington,” said Neugebauer. “I was elected to represent the ideals of our district and my conservative voting record is strong — I have one of the most conservative voting records in the United States House of Representatives. “This is a critical time in our nation's history. More than ever, you deserve and expect principled representation and leaders who are willing not just to talk, but to stand up and fight. As we face wars abroad and many challenges at home with a difficult economy, unemployment and out-of-control government spending, my desire to fight for you and our shared values has never been greater. I am resolved to continue to fight for the protection of life, preservation of our freedoms, defending our constitution, protection of our free enterprise and the second amendment, as well as continuing to push back against increased taxation and over-reaching, big-government policies.” According to records filed with the Texas Secretary of State and the Republican and Democratic parties, Neugebauer has not yet drawn an opponent for the March primary races. The congressman said he feels it is time for the nation to return to the ideals of its founding fathers. “There is a new awakening in our country that is being lead by the conservative patriots,” he said. “It is time to return to the heritage and morals of our founding fathers. The constitution is the framework of our democracy and should be treated as such. I believe that politicians who have made a career of disregarding these basic tenants will see an end to their service this political season. I am honored to represent the Christian ideals and moral values that are a part of the foundation of our country. I am proud to hold these values and ask for the opportunity to continue my fight in Washington." Congressman Neugebauer was first elected in a special election in 2003 and has served in the House of Representative since that time.
