Cliff Hazlewood, 79, of Stanton died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church of Stanton with the Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Cliff was born June 13, 1930, in Lovington, N.M., and married Nelda Latty on April 2, 1949, in the Courtney Community.

Cliff was a life-long resident of Martin County, who farmed and ranched in the Courtney Community. He was active with the Martin County Senior Citizen’s Center and the 10 a.m. drug store coffee drinkers. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge; the Lea County, N.M., Cowboy Hall of Fame; the Martin County Historical Society; the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; and the Texas Hereford Association.

He was involved with the Martin County 4-H Poultry Sale and served as a commissioner for the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Stanton and a founding member of the Midland Archeological Society.

Survivors include his wife, Nelda Hazlewood of Stanton; four daughters, Cathy Herzog and husband, Karl, of Houston, Deborah Louder of San Angelo, Tere Garlington and husband, Steven, of Stanton and Amy Barley and husband, Shelby, of Celina; one sister, Elaine Eiland of Stanton; a sister-in-law, Peggy Latty of Flomaton, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Greg Herzog and wife, Amy, of Austin, Chris Herzog and wife, Leanna, of Water Valley, Justin Louder of Lubbock, Jarrett Louder of San Angelo, Will Garlington of Stanton, Hanna Barley of Belton and Kallie Barley of Celina; four great-grandchildren, Matthew Harris, Owen Herzog, Wyatt Clifton Herzog and Nathan Herzog; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cliff loved his family, friends and community and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Hope Hazlewood, and two infant brothers.

I will always remember Cliff's smile. I never saw him when he wasn't smiling. He blessed all who knew him and will bless those in heaven and those who will follow. May his family be comforted in knowing that Cliff will continue to live through their memories.
