After less than three months at the helm of the local United Way, Tim Larson submitted his resignation to the charity’s board of directors this week.
Larson, who was hired the first part of June to replace former United Way director Cynthia Scott, notified the board of his decision and made his resignation effective Monday, according to officials.
The reason for Larson’s departure is unclear at this time.
“I would rather not comment on that,” said Larson. “I would rather give the board the chance to explain things first. I will say it was due to a difference in opinions between myself and some of the people on the board of directors, but I won’t go into detail at this time.”
Current board president Franklin Weber declined to go into detail concerning Larson’s departure, as well, saying it’s not of a negative nature.
“It’s nothing nefarious or anything like that, I hope you understand,” said Weber. “There’s no wrong doing involved. We all wish Tim well, and that’s all I can really say about it.”
Weber declined to comment on Larson’s mention of a difference of opinions.
“I’ll let Tim speak to that,” said Weber. “I’m not going to go into that.”
Weber, who recently stepped in as president when Clay Grizzle left the board, said Larson’s resignation certainly makes the kickoff of the annual United Way Campaign, which is slated Tuesday, a tougher undertaking.
“The timing hurts us, there’s no doubt about that,” said Weber. “However, we’re going to move forward with the campaign. I expect we’ll appoint an interim director and go from there.”
Jesse Mendoza, board member and campaign chairman for the coming year, could not be reached for comment.
