  The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 10 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
  

* DERRICK POPE, 22, of 1300 College, was arrested Saturday on a charge of Class C assault - family violence.
  * JOHNATHAN CORTEZ, 23, of Lamesa, was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
  * BILLY ALVARADO, 27, of 1611 Harding, was arrested Sunday on a local capias warrant.
  * EARNEST CLARK, 66, transient, was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
  *JACOB DICK, 17, of 2612 Langley, was arrested Sunday on a charge of disorderly conduct - language.
  *MARKUS GRAVES, 20, of 1005 Stadium, was arrested Sunday on a charge of minor in consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
  *THEFT was reported:
- in the 2300 block of Wasson.
- in the 1100 block of Lamesa.
  *RESISTING ARREST, SEARCH OR TRANSPORTATION was reported in the 10000 block of Moss Lake Road.
  * FAILURE TO IDENTIFY - GIVING FALSE INFORMATION was reported in the 10000 block of Moss Lake Road.
  *PURCHASING/FURNISHING ALCOHOL TO A MINOR was reported in the 1400 block of 14th Street.
  * POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA - TWO OUNCES OR LESS was reported in the 1900 block of Mittel.
  *CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 2100 block of Johnson.
  *BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported:
- in the 2600 block of Hunter.
- in the 1300 block of Steakley.
- in the 3600 block of Dixon.
- in the 1400 block of Park.
  * ASSAULT/CLASS C was reported:
- in the 1000 block of Main Street.
- in the 900 block of Gregg Street.
  * ASSAULT CLASS C/FAMILY VIOLENCE was reported:
- in the 500 block of Seventh Street.
- in the 1000 block of Main Street.

The Howard County SheriffÕs Office reported the following activity:
  *MARCUS ARMENDAREZ, 42, was arrested Friday by DPS on a charge of driving while intoxicated - third or more offense with open container.
  *KEVIN DWAYNE RODGERS, 32, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on a charge of bondsman off bond for possession of a controlled substance.
  *ROSELLA PEARL HUDSON, 51, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on charges of possession of marijuana - two ounces or less and possession of a dangerous drug.
  *JAMES JOHN HOLMESLY, 44, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on a charge of possession of marijuana - two ounces or less.
  *ADRIAN ESCOVEDO YANEZ, 18, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on a charge of possession of marijuana - two ounces or less.
  * IRMA MORIN YANEZ, 33, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on a motion to revoke probation for driving while license invalid.
  * JOSE MANUEL JIMENEZ JR., 31, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on a charge of driving while license invalid.
  * ROBERT LEE EVANS, 24, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on a revocation of parole.
  *SAMUEL JAMES DAVIS JR., 32, was arrested Friday by DPS on a charge of driving while license invalid.
  *RONALD DOUGLAS HOLT JR., 21, was arrested Saturday by DPS on a charge of driving while license invalid.
  * JERRY LOUIS HINOJOSA, 37, was arrested Saturday by the HCSO on a charge of public intoxication.
  * MANUEL ESCAMILLA JR., 20, was arrested Saturday by DPS on charges of driving while intoxicated - open container, no driverÕs license and no liability insurance.
  * NICHOLAS JOSEPH HORVATICH, 26, was arrested Saturday by DPS on a charge of driving while intoxicated - open container.
  * RICHARD ANDRES MARQUEZ, 36, was arrested Saturday by the HCSO on charges of driving while license invalid, displaying a fictitious registration certificate and public intoxication.
  * JACOB ANDREW FERRO, 26, was transferred to the county jail Saturday by the BSPD on a charge of driving while license invalid.
  * EDWARD BOBLEDO RANGEL JR., 25, was transferred to the county jail Saturday by the BSPD on a charge of purchasing/furnishing alcohol to a minor.
  *ALFRED RAY MIEARS, 45, was arrested Saturday by the HCSO on a charge of tampering with governmental records.
  * FRANK LEE JACKSON, 47, was transferred to the county jail Saturday by the BSPD on a charge of possession of marijuana - two ounces or less.
  *DON RAY HENSON, 46, was arrested Saturday by DPS on a charge of driving while intoxicated - open container third or more offense.
  * FIDEL PEREZ, 66, was arrested Sunday by DPS on charges of driving while intoxicated - second offense and driving while license invalid.
  *EVRIN JAMALL WINTERS, 18, was arrested Sunday by the HCSO on a charge of public intoxication.
  *JOHNATHAN CORTEZ, 23, was transferred to the county jail Sunday by the BSPD on a charge of driving while intoxicated - open container.
  *JOHN MICHAEL SOLIS, 23, was arrested Sunday by DPS on a charge of driving while license invalid/suspended.
  *JENNIFER JANE BELCHER, 20, was arrested Sunday by DPS on charges of theft by check, no liability insurance and an unrestrained child under the age of two years.
  * RODOLFO ORDONEZ AGUILAR, 33, was arrested Monday by DPS on a charge of driving while license invalid.

The Big Spring Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services reported the following activity:
  *MEDICAL was reported in the 2500 block of March. One person was transported to SMMC.
  *TRAFFIC ACCIDENT was reported in the 200 block of West Marcy. One person was transported to SMMC.
  * TRAFFIC ACCIDENT was reported in the 200 block of West Marcy. Service was refused.
  * MEDICAL was reported in the 600 block of Second Street in Coahoma, One person was transported to SMMC.
  * MEDICAL was reported in the 500 block of Birdwell Lane. One person was transported to SMMC.
  *MEDICAL was reported in the 1000 block of Gregg Street. One person was transported to the VAMC.
  * MEDICAL was reported in the 700 block of Marcy. One person was transported to SMMC.
  *MEDICAL was reported in the 1600 block of Stadium. One person was transported to SMMC.
  *GRASS FIRE was reported near the intersection of North Runnels and North 11th Street.

 My family has lived in Big Spring for 31 years. This last Thursday my mother, Geri York and I had to go out of town for some doctors appts. We stopped at the very last gas station as you leave town heading to Midland. I think it is a Shell Sation. We had to get a gallon of water to add to my truck. We purchased the water and before we could even get it into the truck we had two seperate men ask if we needed any help. This is the reason we live in Big Spring and West Texas!!

The greed of the people in Big Spring has become unbelievable since shortly after the refinery explosion! Now that there is an influx of out-of-towners the supply and demand of housing is being strained. Rent has suddenly doubled (or more) and "trailer parks" are popping up all over to help accomodate. All these good ol' boys are lining their pockets on opportunity presented by tragedy and it makes me sick. Not only are they raping the newcomers for their money, but those of us who have lived here for years haven't suddenly come into a lot of money. We still work regular jobs with regular pay. Now we can't even afford to live in our own town because of the greed of all these opportunists!
