Regarding my letter published Sept. 9 concerning petitioning Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison concerning funding for wireless communications: The senator’s office called to let us know that extending wireless through the Universal Service Fund, paid for with taxes, would be an unnecessary expense when there are grants available through other bills such as the Farm Bill.

We need to get the word out to the community that they can apply for these grants. Brian Hendricks at Sen. Hutchison’s office can be reached at 202-224-7351.
