“It’s a wonderful opportunity to get dressed up and have a good time,” said Meghan Bias, museum administrator.
Hangar 25 Air Museum is perhaps best known for chronicling the history of aviation in Howard County with obvious emphasis on the Big Spring Bombardier School and Webb Air Force Base. Each year, many Air Force veterans and civilian workers who had ties to the area — Webb AFB in particular — stop by to rekindle memories.
Funds generated from the Silver Wings Ball help to not only keep Hangar 25 open, but support various programs such as Veteran of the Month and children’s summer activities.
“We’re non-profit, so we rely on grants, donations and fund-raisers,” said Bias.
However, the museum’s ties to aviation history should not lead anyone to think it’s important to have an Air Force or Webb-related background in order to attend the ball.
“Our museum is dedicated to local history and everyone is a part of that. We encourage everyone to come enjoy a night of fun,” Bias said.
The annual event will be a full evening of activity — a silent auction, plenty of hors d’oeuvres, dancing and live music.
Among the items to be awarded is a guitar autographed by members of the band, No Doubt. Also on the auction block are overnight packages at vacation locations.
In a separate give-away, someone will receive a two-night stay at the historic El Paisano Hotel in Marfa, plus $200 in trip expenses.
Tickets for the ball are $25 per person. Reserved tables for eight are $200. To RSVP, call (432) 264-1999 or e-mail

Hangar 25 Air Museum will gladly accept donations from people who would like to help the museum, but cannot attend the fund-raiser. Also, any businesses or individuals having items they’d like to donate for the auction are encouraged to contact Bias at the museum.
