Air Force Airman Jacob E. Cortez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

During the six weeks of training, Cortez studied the Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches; and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

In addition, he earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force by completing basic training.

He is the son of Rosie Cortez of Big Spring, and is a 2007 graduate of Big Spring High School.

Talon Wade Saverance, the son of Rose and Rusty Bowers of Kingland and the grandson of Dennis and Linda Stapel of Big spring, graduated from Marine Boot Camp in San Diego, Calif., on Oct. 12.

He will now receive advanced training in North Carolina.
