Burglary spree suspects indicted by grand jury
Friday, 30 November 2007

By STEVE REAGAN Staff Writer
Three men accused of conducting a month-long burglary spree were among 18 defendants indicted by the Howard County Grand Jury Thursday morning.

Christopher Wade Clark, 21, and Steven Silletti, 17, both currently in Howard County Jail, and Robert Pearson, 20, 904 Nolan, were indicted in connection with a string of burglaries that occurred earlier this year.

Clark was indicted on two counts of burglary of a habitation, one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle and seven counts of burglary of a building.

Silletti was hit with nine indictments — two for burglary of a habitation, one of UUV and the rest for burglary of a building.

Pearson faces a comparatively lighter load — he was indicted three times, all for burglary of a building.

Most of the indictments spring from a rash of burglaries that occurred in September and October of this year.

District Attorney Hardy Wilkerson said that the cases began falling into place fairly quickly.

“The three were caught under suspicious circumstances ... and as the investigation continued, evidence surfaced connecting them to other offenses,” Wilkerson said. “I feel like that this was a very substantial operation.”

Burglary of a habitation, the most severe of the charged offenses, is a second degree felony, carrying a possible sentence of between two and 20 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000. The other charges are all state jail felonies, punishable by between six months and two years in a state jail facility.

Others indicted by the grand jury Thursday included:

• Zachery Scott Lyon, 31, 2403 Runnels, driving while intoxicated with child passenger (state jail felony).

• David Jaquez Escovedo, 36, 1401 N. Highway 87 No. 102, sexual assault of a child (second degree felony).

• William Ryan Locke, 33, 400 S. Adams, Coahoma, possession of a controlled substance (state jail felony).

• Joe Rudy Mendoza, 30, 1905 Eubanks, evading arrest (third degree felony).

• Gilbert Munoz, 21, 2603 Ent, possession of a controlled substance (third degree felony).

• Roman Ortega, 35, 704 Johnson, possession of a controlled substance (state jail felony).

• Steven Gordon Rogers, 55, 2607 Williams Rd., driving while intoxicated (second degree felony).

• Olga Barnhardt Rubio, 27, Snyder, debit card abuse and two counts of forgery (all state jail felonies).

• Alex Sanchez, 22, 1708 Young, criminal mischief (state jail felony).

• Darrell Scott Shultz, 24, 1002 N. Main Apt. 64, evading arrest (state jail felony).

• James Weldon Watson, 30, theft under $1,500 with two or more previous convictions and two counts of forgery (all state jail felonies).
