HAMLIN — Isaac Castro has announced he is a Republican candidate for state representative in District 85.
Castro is an attorney in Jones County who currently serves on the board of directors of the Jones County Appraisal District and as a trustee of the Hamlin Independent School District.
“We deserve better representation in Austin,” said Castro. “West Texans deserve a conservative.
“The time has come for real leadership. We must act now to protect property rights, reduce our tax burden, provide quality education for our children and begin enforcing our immigration laws,” continued Castro. “I will stand up against special interests and for West Texas.”
Castro graduated with honors from Angelo State University with a degree in government and then earned his law degree at the University of Texas. He served as an assistant district attorney for Jones and Shackelford counties and county attorney in Stonewall County.
He is active in his church and has been active in volunteer community service organizations such as Rotary and Jaycees. In addition, Castro is the current Republican Party chair of Jones County.
If Castro survives the Republican primaries, he could face incumbent District 85 Rep. Joe Heflin in the November election.
