Viola Gamboa Rodriguez, 70, of Big Spring died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at her residence. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

She was born June 4, 1943, in Big Spring to Florencia Martinez Gamboa and Elias Gamboa Sr. She grew up in Big Spring. She and her twin sister Yolanda studied to be nuns. In 1971, she moved to San Angelo where she worked as an licensed vocational nurse for San Angelo Community Hospital. After returning to Big Spring in 1991, she worked until her death at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, James Gamboa Rodriguez of Big Spring; one daughter, Marisela Reyes and husband Rey of San Angelo; three grandchildren, Andrew Reyes, Christyna Wetherby and Matthew Reyes, all of San Angelo; her mother, Florencia Gamboa; three sisters, Elena Lara of San Angelo, Maria (Natalia) Viera and husband Daniel of Antioch, Calif., and her twin sister, Yolanda Arispe and husband Jose of El Paso; one brother, Elias Gamboa Jr. and wife Donna of Big Spring; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elias Gamboa Sr.; one sister, Manuela Galan; and one brother, Gilbert Gamboa.
