Water restrictions tightened

Big Spring City Council members gave the go-ahead for even tougher restrictions on water use Tuesday, as municipal officials continue to describe conservation efforts as “shooting at a moving target.”

The council gave the green light to several conservation methods to be implemented by City Manager Gary Fuqua, including another decrease in the number of days allowing outdoor water use — including watering lawns — and implementation of a hotline for city residents to report infractions.

The new schedule — implemented Tuesday — calls for residential water customers to restrict outdoor water use to Saturdays from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Businesses are also required to abide by the one-day policy, restricting outdoor water use to Tuesdays from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m.
