Water woes alleviated somewhat

September 26, 2013

Is the drought over?

“Absolutely not.”

That was the response from John Grant, general manager of the Colorado River Municipal Water District, when asked about the recent rainfall and the rise in lake levels according to the CRMWD weekly report.

“We were fortunate last fall,” said Grant about the runoff Big Spring received at the end of September. As far as the drought is concerned Grant said that we are not quite out of the woods yet.

“We're in better shape than we were last year, but we have a long way to go,” the director explained.

Compared to last year's totals Lake J.B. Thomas is up to 1.89 percent from 0.42, Lake E.V. Spence is at 4.91 up from 0.19 and the O.H. Ivie Reservoir is at 15.93, up from last year's 11.86.
