November 19, 2010

• The eight area high school students who received the Big Spring Optimist Club's annual Outstanding Student Awards. They are DeAnna Clare and Andrew Fillingim of Big Spring, Rachel Kennedy and Braden Iden of Coahoma, Regan Newsom and Zane Herrin of Forsan and morgan Yarbrough and Blake Thomasson of Sands.

• Big Spring High School senior Jackson Watkins, the son of Rick and Susan Watkins, who was named as the Howard County Republicans' Student of the Month and the Greater Big Spring Rotary Club's Outstanding Student of the Month.

• The 300 or so people that turned out last week at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum for the annual Community-Wide Veteran's Day observance and to the Stan Partee family that provided a free lunch to veterans and their families following the ceremony.

• All those who took part in the Silver Wings Ball that served as a fund-raising event for the Hangar 25 Air Museum.

• Everyone that turned out Saturday night at the Stampede for the annual Nix family salute and country and western music bash.

• The more than 20 local artists that manned booths and the several hundred that turned out for the Heritage Museum's first ever "Art at the Museum" event.

• All those that turned out at the First Christian Church for the United Way's fourth annual Empty Bowls event.
