Forsan Buffaloes — Bye week
Stanton Buffaloes vs. Idalou Wildcats
7:30 p.m. at Stanton
The 2-3 Stanton Buffaloes will play host to the 3-1 Idalou Wildcats this Friday night in their district home-opener. Last week, the Buffaloes had a win snatched out of their hands in the final seconds by the Coahoma Bulldogs and are now looking to get their first district win.
In order to get it done, they have to get past a Wildcats squad playing their first district game. Idalou had a bye last week and should be pretty well rested from their 38-0 win in Roosevelt Sept. 16.
Originally picked by many to win District 2-2A, defending state champion Idalou brings a well rounded team onto the field and should prove to be one of Stanton's toughest contests this year.
The injury-plagued Buffaloes are again being forced to do battle short handed, but as the team proved in the first two games of the season, they have no problem lining up whoever can play and playing against anyone.
Friday's game may not be the season for Stanton, but it is truly an important game for them. Falling behind 0-2 in this district would be a hard hill to climb, even for an adversity-proven group of athletes like the Buffaloes.
Expect Coach Peterson's bunch to come out swinging this week. They may have a lot on their plate right now, but they have given no indication they are no longer hungry.
Coahoma Bulldogs vs. Hawley Bearcats
7:30 p.m. at Hawley
Coming off of a last-second, adrenaline-pumping victory at home last week, the 2-3 (1-0 in district) Coahoma Bulldogs are getting set to face a big challenge.
This week, Coahoma's very own Cardiac Kids will be traveling to Hawley to take on the undefeated Bearcats for what basically boils down to first place in district 2-2A — with Forsan enjoying a bye week.
The Bearcats are enjoying an undefeated season so far, but last week's 27-14 win over Anson was their first win against a 2A team, the previous four being against smaller, 1A squads.
Last week's win against Stanton came in a closely-matched, hard-fought battle for the Bulldogs. Expect a lot of the same this week. Hawley may have some momentum, winning five straight, but Coahoma has battle scars. They were tested plenty last week and they came out on top.
Don't expect them to rollover for anyone this year.View more articles in:
