Marj Carpenter just returned from the National Federation of Press Women Conference in Salt Lake City where she was a speaker at one of the banquets in the three day meeting.
Other speakers included Heloise of “Hints from Heloise” and members of the Marie/Donnie Osmond family. Marj was honored at the rehearsal of the Latter Day Saints Choir as the former moderator of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
She also was honored by the Texas branch of the national journalists on her 87th birthday. A memorial service honored members who had died during the year including Helen Thomas of the national press corporation, a friend of Marj's.
The federation was celebrating its 75th year and a book came out on the first 40 years written by a reported from Chicago.
One chapter honored Marj. She was credited with saving the organization in the early 90s when they were in financial trouble. At that time Marj cut the budget 10 percent and raised the dues.
She was accompanied by her daughter, Carolyn Stewart of Winsboro.
