William Henry Cox, MD, 79, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at his residence. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Monsignor Bernard Gully officiating. Interment will follow at Lamesa Memorial Park, Lamesa, Texas.
He was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Lubbock, Texas.
Dr. Cox was a former physician at the VA Medical Center. He was an ambassador for the Big Spring Chamber of Commerce for several years; a volunteer at the Big Spring Comanche Warrior Tribe Triathlon; a volunteer with the Howard County Library Adult Tutoring Program and manned the gift shop and greeted people at Hangar 25 on the weekends. He was a former member of the Howard County Historical Commission.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include four sons, W. Jeffrey Cox and wife Shirley of Massachusetts, Steven Cox and wife Julie of Virginia, David Cox of New Jersey and Thomas Cox of Texas; two daughters, Kathleen Chang and husband, Kevin of Washington and Linda MacDonald and husband, Robert of Washington; a brother, Robert Cox and wife Nancy of Austin; and seven grandchildren.
