Yard sale items needed to send kids to camp

May 18, 2011

Officials with the Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club of Big Spring are asking area residents to search their garages and attics for donations to Saturday's community yard sale to raise much-needed funds to send local youngsters to camp.

According to Sonnet Hildebrand, director of the local Boys and Girls Club, donations to the annual yard sale have come in slowly.

“Donations are down considerably when you compare them to last year's yard sale,” she said. “It's been pretty slow. However, we're really hoping for a last-minute push from the community to make this a success.”

The sale is slated from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army office, located at 811 W. Fifth St., and will help give children within the Boys and Girls Club program a chance to attend a five-day camp.
