Zachary Taylor Steward
Zachary Taylor Steward passed away at the age of 26 from complications from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Zach was born in Big Spring and moved to Lubbock when he was 4 years old. He went to Trinity Christian School until 1997, then went to Frenship Schools, where he graduated in 2005. He received his Associate’s Degree from South Plains College and then received his Bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Lubbock Christian University in 2011. After graduation, he did freelance graphic design work.
Despite his life-long illness, Zach was always happy with a very positive outlook on life. He had a strong will and was determined to graduate from college. He loved being outdoors in the sun, he loved the lake, jet skiing and drag racing. But mostly he loved Cameron, Morgan, Micelle and his parents and his Mimi. He was an advocate for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and served as an MDA ambassador when he was six years old. Zach was a joy and inspiration to his family and his many friends because of his zest for life and strong motivation to be independent.
Zach leaves behind a close and supportive family including his mother, Vicki Steward; his father Mike Steward; his grandmother, Pamella Crim; his brother Cameron; sisters Morgan Hyman and her husband Joey and Michelle Olson and husband Charles; and several aunts, uncles and cousins and many dear friends.
Two uncles, Tommie Samuel and Ira Joe, preceded him in death, both from complications of Muscular Dystrophy.
Family visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, from 4-6 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Services are Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Resthaven Abbey Chapel. The family requests donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
