Noted author, historian to speak at Hangar 25 Air Museum

LTC (P) Alan C. Huffines will the guest speaker Thursday at the Hangar 25 Air Museum Briefing Room.
The public is invited to the event, which will be at 6 p.m.

Huffines is the author of “Blood of Noble Men: The Alamo Siege and Battle, an Illustrated Chronology, “A Pilgrim Shadow,” “The Texas War of Independence” and is a frequent contributor to True West Magazine.

He has provided historical work on feature films and documentaries, including “Texas and Tennessee, A Musical Connection” (1982), “Gone to Texas” (CBS 1986), “Alamo: The Price of Freedom” (1987), “Glory” (Tri-Star, 1989), “Son of the Morning Star” (ABC, 1990), “Two for Texas” (TNT, 1997) and “The Real American Cowboy” (Kurtis Productions, 1999).

Most recently he served as the military advisor for Touchstone Pictures’ “The Alamo” (2004). He is a member of the Western Writers of America, was a featured author at the 1999 and 2001 Texas Book Festival and has appeared on CSPAN’s “Book TV.”

He received a bachelor’s degree in history from Midwestern State University and his master’s in history from Norwich University in Vermont.

He is a graduate of the Airborne School, Ranger School, Infantry Officer’s Basic Course, Armor Officer’s Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School and the Command and General Staff College.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service medal with two Campaign Stars and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

Others include the Army Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Award, Kuwait Liberation Medals from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab and Basic Airborne Wings.

He has served from rifle platoon leader to infantry battalion commander and is currently assigned as the Deputy Commanding Officer, 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

He is married to the former Caroline Cotham. They have four children and reside in Buffalo Gap.
