Jack H. Cottongame Sr.

Jack H. Cottongame Sr., 71, of Big Spring died Sunday, June 8, 2008, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Salvation Army Capts. Russ and Linda Keeney officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 19, 1936, in Dawson and married Peggy Barbee Aug. 10, 1966, in Lamesa.

Mr. Cottongame came to Big Spring at the age 2. He served in the United States Navy for four years and had worked as a fireman for the Big Spring Fire Department for 21 years. He had worked as a crosswalk guard for Big Spring ISD for two years and was a member of the Salvation Army.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Cottongame of Big Spring; two sons, Jackie Cottongame Jr. and wife, Sanden, of Krum and Gary Snowden and wife, Patricia W., of Big Spring; one sister, Sharon White and husband, Bobby, of Big Spring; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ray Cottongame; and three sisters, Verna Sue Smith, Geneva Morton and Betty Brumley.

The family suggest memorials to Home Hospice, 111 E. Seventh St., Suite A, Big Spring 79720 or to The Salvation Army, 811 W. Fifth, Big Spring 79720.

It's hard to say good by to a ship mate. Jack and I served aboard the USS ESSEX CVA9 in G3 DIV. Jack will be missed by all of his friends an ship mates. Jack we will meet again on the high seas. God bless
