Howard County honors military veterans

The community of Howard County hosted several events Wednesday to honor active and nonactive military service members on Veterans Day Wednesday. At Howard College, the VAMC hosted a community-wide ceremony which included the Honor Guard from Goodfellow Air Force Base.
The guest speaker was the Rev. Scott Jimenez, VAMC chaplain and U.S. Marine and U.S. Navy veteran,
Forsan High School had a guest speaker, 91-year-old Austin Steen Jr., who spoke about his experience in the Battle of the Bulge. Forsan Elementary School held a school-wide program. Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home had a full slate of activities during the day including a balloon release in the afternoon.
Big Spring Intermediate School offered a lunch to area veterans. Students related to a veteran who attended the luncheon were also invited to join. Various business also offered free services or meals.
