Big Spring boys and girls regional 4A champs

LUBBOCK — The Big Spring Steers and Lady Steers are headed to Austin.
The boys and girls both took home 4A regional championships in the regional track and field meet held at Lowrey Field in Lubbock on Friday and Saturday.
The girls will be sending teams to state in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400 relay. The boys will be sending the 4x400 relay team.
Individually, Kaitlyn Mathews and Ian Gonzales were the big winners for each team. Mathews will advance to state in the 400-meter dash and the triple jump, as well as being part of the 4x400 team. Gonzales advanced to state in the 800-meter run and the 400-meter dash, and is part of the boys’ 4x400 team.
Big Spring girls’ head coach Sunni Strickland said her excitement level on a one to ten was “infinity.”
