Voted on criteria of leadership in the school and community, Mr. and Ms. BSHS is the highest honor for seniors of Big Spring High School. This year, the student body elected John Ibanez and Jori Hanlan.
“To me, Ms. BSHS means that the rest of the high school sees you as someone that has influenced the high school in a great way,” Hanlan said. “[that] makes me feel extremely honored.
Hanlan looks for positivity and a good work ethic when imagining a good role model.
“A quality I believe that people should exhibit more often is being positive and seeing the best in every situation,” she said.
The idea of being a good role model is open to many interpretations. For Ibanez, honesty is key.
“I think people should be more honest in everything they do just because it’s always the right thing to do,” Ibanez said.
When Ibanez and Hanlan’s names were announced, they were surprised with congratulatory gifts.
