H-E-B is giving area kids a chance to satisfy their artistic side, sweet tooth and love of Halloween, all at the same time. As an added bonus, they'll be giving to a good cause.
The grocery store will be the site of a “pumpkin patch” decorating event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
Gale Pittman, who heads up the store's bakery, said the produce department will line up pumpkins along the Lancaster Street side of the store. Children can then purchase and decorate a pumpkin for $3.48, with the proceeds going to the local United Way.
There will be more treats waiting Inside the store — Pittman is concocting a large scarecrow made entirely of cupcakes. Those cupcakes can be purchased for $2 apiece, with the money again going to the UW campaign, he said.
