A long-time Howard County law enforcement officer has tossed his hat into the ring for the justice of the peace, precent 1, place 2 position.
Robert Fitzgibbons filed his intent to run with the Republican chairman Wednesday. The 54-year-old lifetime resident of Howard County is a lieutenant in the Big Spring Police Department patrol division.
“I’ve worked with the city for 30 years,” he said. “I’ve been with the police department for 29 years. I have an extensive law enforcement background, so I believe that qualifies me to sit in that position.
“Retirement from the city was on the horizon and I always wanted to do something along these lines,” he said. “I felt like that was a great opportunity to go ahead and step out of one career and into another.”
