FORSAN — Senior running back Kolby Self was honored Tuesday at Forsan High School with the statewide award “Built Ford Tough Texas Player of the Week” at the 1A level.
Self earned the award for a particularly stellar performance in the final week of the regular season to propel FHS into the playoffs.
He rushed a season-high 35 times for 313 yards and four TDs, including the game-winning score late in the fourth quarter, in a 38-35 win over Winters.
Self, at 5-10, 150 pounds rushed for 1,038 yards on 151 attempts in his first nine games of the year and racked up 12 TDs. The versatile athlete also had 10 receptions for 162 yards and two scores. The Buffaloes (4-7) fell to Windthorst in a hard-fought bi-district playoff game. Self, as usual, made contributions on both sides of the ball.
Self hopes college recruiters will take notice of his efforts on the field. In track and field, Self qualified for the last spring’s regional meet in the 100, 200 and sprint relay and starts in the backcourt for the basketball squad.
“Kolby is a role model for his teammates, especially the younger ones,” said Head Football Coach Jason Phillips. “He’s a great kid whose main attribute is his outstanding work ethic.”
