Local comedy troupe Goondock Saints will be holding auditions Saturday at the Comanche Trail Park Amphitheater in preparation for an Austin performance slated for late January.
According to troupe spokesman Clay Vickers, the local comedy group is slated to perform at The Hideout Theater in Austin on Jan. 28, but the company of comedians is in need of other funny men and women to help round out the show.
“The most important thing we need right now is people,” Vickers said. “As of right now, the group isn't huge, and one of our members, James Clark, lives in East Texas pursuing a career in film. So we are holding auditions. Anyone who has ever had a dream of doing comedy or has been told they are funny and should do comedy needs to be there if they can. I am looking for one person to perform a 5 to 7 minute stand up routine, and two or three people for improv and skits.
“The auditions are going to be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the amphitheater inside Comanche Trail Park. Those interested should show up with no more 5 minutes of a routine ready to perform.”
The Jan. 28 show will mark the group's second Austin show, according to Vickers, a 2003 graduate of Forsan High School affectionately known to his friends as “Gooney.”
“In the summer of 2010 I performed my very first comedy show alongside of one of my best friends, Jonathan Rubio,” Vickers said. “We booked a show in Austin at Kick Butt Coffee. Although it wasn't the type of crowd we were really looking for, we had about 10 people who couldn't stop laughing."
