Utility usage, seal coating bids and jail issues topped the Howard County commissioners agenda Monday morning, as the court prepares for its joint meeting with the city of Big Spring Feb. 28 to discuss the possibility of combining the Sheriff's Department and Big Spring Police Department under one roof.
Commissioners touched upon the meeting scheduled later this month, which will include county and city officials. The joint meeting is set to discuss the possibility of housing both law enforcement agencies at the Howard County Jail and sharing resources.
"To be clear, this is not meaning to join the offices and their duties," County Judge Mark Barr said. "This is only meaning that the police department would be on one end of the building and the sheriff's office would be on the other end."
According to Commissioner Donnie Baker and Barr, the comments offered by members of the community show support for the measure.
"The ones who have spoken to me on this issue have expressed that they are in favor of joining the two," Baker said.
