FORSAN — The Forsan Buffaloes treated a large homecoming crowd to an offensive display of epic proportions. Ty Johnson touched the ball six times and scored on four of them. Johnson broke free for touchdown runs of 68 and 66 yards, caught a Fosster Burchett pass for a 66 yard touchdown and picked off a Plains' pass and returned it 94 yards for another score.
“It was just fun to watch,” Coach Jason Phillips said. “Ty is truly a gifted athlete and it was one of those nights where everything clicked for him. He is a privilege to coach.”
The Buffaloes jumped out early on one of Johnson's long touchdown runs, then scored a few minutes later when Foster Burchett hit Trevor Burchett on a 65 yard pass play over the middle. Forsan capped the first quarter with an eight yard touchdown run by Brendan Roman.
Johnson scored twice in the second quarter, on the long pass and the interception, and then again in the third.
Kolby Self added six more points in the fourth, when he broke free and scampered down the filed on a 45 yard touchdown run.
The Buffaloes ended the night with 356 total yards of offense (222 rushing and 134 passing) on only six first downs. They only held the ball for 12 minutes and 58 seconds, compared to Plains' 35 minutes, but it was enough and they made it count.
“This was a great win for us,” Coach Phillips said. “It was our last non-district game and it's nice to get this kind of momentum going into the tough part of our schedule. We executed well on both sides of the ball. All we have to do now is stay focused, but I like where we are.”
