Geraldine “Geri” Lopez, 63, of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home with a vigil to be held at 7 p.m. Memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
She was born Sept. 6, 1948, in Taft, Texas, to Ofilia and Manuel Flores. The family moved to Big Spring in 1960. She worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in the canteen. She was a chiropractic assistant to Dr. Chrane and more recently worked as a home health care provider. She was a very active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, especially with the youth. She was also very active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Garcia and husband Rene of San Angelo and Morgan Lopez of Big Spring; mother, Ofilia Flores of Big Spring; one brother, Juan Flores and wife Karen of Fort Smith, Ark.; five sisters, Oralia Tovias and husband John, Angie Foster and Anita Massey, all of Big Spring; Mary Powell and her husband Loren of Beverly, Kan., and Margie Martinez and husband Johnny of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Marcy Garcia, Mercedes Garcia, Asia Garcia and Chastity Garcia, all of San Angelo; two great-grandchildren, September and Kye; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcy Lopez, a Vietnam veteran who died in 1972. She was also preceded in death by her father, Manuel Flores; sister, Daisy Battles; and a brother-in-law, Hugh Massey.
