Lonnie Ferrell Anderson, 70, of Coahoma, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at the Coahoma Church of Christ with Eddy Pitchford officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
He was born March 9, 1941 in Big Spring to Luther "Bud" and Vera Dell Anderson. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Kiser, on Oct. 7, 1960.
Lonnie was a lifelong resident of Coahoma. He attended Texas Tech University. In 1964, he returned to Coahoma, where he and his brother took over ownership of his uncle's grocery store, Cramer Brothers. The store was later renamed Lil' Sooper Market. He retired from the grocery business in 1985 and then started Anderson Construction. He retired from the construction business in 1998.
Lonnie was a member of the Coahoma Church of Christ and was an avid Coahoma Bulldog sports fan.
He was a loving, faithful father and husband who was a blessing to his family.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Mary of Coahoma; two daughters, Shana Blagrave and husband, Doug of Ackerly, and Kelley Hankins and Jim Pearce of Big Spring; grandchildren, Chaz Sloan and wife, Erin of San Angelo, Lauren Rubio and husband, Jacob of Big Spring, and Brittany Hankins and Kayla Hankins of Big Spring; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Truitt and Evelyn Sloan, and Ben Rylan Rubio; one brother, Buddy Anderson of Coahoma; two sisters, Phyllis Scroggins of Big Spring and Wanda Davis of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Vera Dell Anderson; one brother, Wendell Joe Anderson; one sister, Linda Dell Anderson; and one grandson, Wacey Anderson.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Suite 12-A, Lubbock, Texas 79424.
