Love the park? Love to run?
February 11 will provide an opportunity to combine love for the park and the love to run and even a chance to share it with your partner, in the first annual Run 2 Love 2 Run at the Big Spring State Park.
“Valentine’s Day was the inspiration for this event, of course,” Park Manager Ron Alton said. “This is an incentive for folks to stay fit.”
Local race director Craig Felty found the inspiration from a few couples he knows who are working toward running together and staying in shape. According to Alton, this event is Felty’s brainchild. In addition to the healthy aspect of running, the event also is financially healthy for the state park.
“All state park events are good business for the park,” Alton said. “Money raised will be used toward maintenance of the park.”
The state monitors the amount of traffic through the state park and the better the numbers, the better justification there is to keep the park open, according to Alton.
The run will take place at 11 a.m. with registration completed by 10 a.m the morning of the race. There will be a special couples bracket as well as single entries accepted.
“As always, just because run is in the name doesn’t mean people can’t walk the distance if they choose to,” Alton said.
There will be awards presented to the top three places in male, female and couples divisions. There will also be special prize drawings and prizes for the best Valentine’s costume.
There is a $20 entry fee for each person; couples are asked to submit their individual forms together. Registration can be conducted online at www.timingspecialist.com or by calling the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce office at 263-7641.
