A suspect believed to be involved in the kidnapping of a 4-year-old child in Ector County was arrested early today in Howard County, according to local law enforcement officials.
Martin Silguero, 48, was arrested on charges of kidnapping and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle at the TA truck stop, located near the intersection of Interstate Highway 20 and N. Highway 87. Also taken into custody with Silguero was 30-year-old Veronica Rios, who was arrested on warrants unrelated to the kidnapping, according to Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker.
“At approximately 1:30 a.m. this morning, deputies with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office located a 2012 Kia Soul that had been reported stolen from Ector County,” Parker said. “The vehicle was believed to be involved in the kidnapping of a 4-year-old child, also out of Ector County.”
According to law enforcement reports, the child was reported missing and car reported stolen at approximately 7:30 from a location in Odessa. The report was received by local law enforcement officers, who spotted the vehicle in the parking lot of the TA truck stop shortly after 1 a.m.
Parker said an interview of Silguero shed light on the location of the child, who was quickly rescued.
“After a brief interview of Silguero, the 4-year-old child was located in a local motel room — the Deluxe Inn — alone and unharmed,” Parker said. “Silguero was arrested without incident, and upon questioning told officers where the child was and gave them the key to the motel room. The child was checked by medical personnel and released to parents.”
Parker said Silguero is not related to the child and believes the kidnapping to be the result of a domestic dispute between him and the child's mother.
Silguero and Rios are currently in custody of the Howard County Detention Center. According to law enforcement officials, bond has not been set at the time of this report.
