Augustine “Telo” Cantu, 67, of Big Spring died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. He will lie in state from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Deacon Johnny Arguello, officiating.
He was born March 27, 1945, in Ozona, Texas, to Victoria (Mendez) and Domingo Cantu. He lived most of his life in Howard County. He was a truck driver and had worked for Price Construction.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Cantu of Big Spring; one daughter, Angela Juarez (Beto) of Midland; four step-daughters, Mary Galaviz, Lupe Marquez (Ray), Rosalinda Salazar (Jeff) and Janie Galaviz (Enrique), all of Big Spring; four sons, Chevito Galaviz (Leticia) of Big Spring, Frankie Galaviz (Marla) of Stanton, David Galaviz (Mandy) and Domingo “Bebe” Galaviz (Gloria), all of Big Spring; four brothers, Domingo Cantu, Pedro Cantu, Manuel Cantu and Tony Cantu, all of Big Spring; two sisters, Maria Elena Mendez of Brownwood and Josie Guiterrez (Manuel) of Big Spring; three grandchildren, including Michael Cantu (Danielle); several great-granchildren, including Savanah; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and maternal grandparents, Ramona Tijerena and Pedro Mendez; paternal grandparents, Sarah Rodriquez and Augustine Cantu; a daughter, Estella Cantu; one sister, Ramona Edmondson; one brother, Joaquin Cantu; and three step-sons, Rey Galaviz, Juan Galaviz and Robert Galaviz.
