Evelia Castaneda Ramirez, 75, died peacefully March 10, 2013, at home surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with progressive diabetes. Evelia was born in Suchil, Durango in Mexico, the daughter of Manuel Castaneda and Gabriela Rosas Castaneda.
Evelia enjoyed the outdoors, especially playing in “MamaLaLa’s” (her grandmother's) garden during her childhood. Despite her impoverished upbringing, Evelia’s love for life encouraged her drive for learning, and she appreciated culture, arts, poetry, literature, classical music and the glory of God’s love through nature.
Evelia married Camilo T. Ramirez on Sept. 10, 1965. Evelia and Camilo began their family in Big Spring, Texas, where they lived for 16 years with their three children who soon followed. The family moved to San Angelo, Texas, where they lived their quaint but humble lives for 32 years. Evelia instilled a strong religious foundation in each of her children and grandchildren which to this day cultivates their perseverance to never give up and look to the sky, for the sun will always rise tomorrow.
Evelia is survived by her children, Camilo Ramirez Jr. and wife Cindy of San Angelo, Araceli Hernandez of San Antonio and Bernice Ramirez and husband Randy Moya of San Angelo; stepchildren Felipe Ramirez and wife Carmen of San Antonio, Rachel Amaya of San Antonio and Tammy Bauer and husband Tom of Frisco; grandchildren, Joshua Joel Ramirez, Camilo Christopher Ramirez, Jennifer Yvonne Davenport, Clarissa Lenove Hernandez, Chrysantha Adelaide Hernandez, Chloe Elise Hernandez and Vinny Paul Moya; and sister Eloisa Rosas Castaneda of Suchil, Durango.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Maria Elena Castaneda, Manuel Castaneda, Jose Castaneda, Antonio Castaneda and Maria Luisa Renteria.
