High water blocks local roads

High water is causing impassable conditions on some local roads. The list in the image above, released by the Howard County Sheriff's Office, shows areas the HCSO has determined are too flooded for traffic. Drivers should not attempt to traverse these areas in their vehicles.

In addition, the Howard County Road and Bridge Department issued a press release indicating they will use concrete barriers to block off the flooded section of Moore School Road starting Thursday.

"The Howard County Road & Bridge Department will place concrete barriers across the intersection of Moore School Road and County 21 on Thursday June 6, 2019. This location was flooded the week of May 27, 2019 and water remains too high for safe passage by the public. The barrier rails will remain in place until the water subsides enough that the roadbed can dry out enough to bear the weight of oil field traffic. The public is advised to follow the marked detour and not to cross the road closures at CR 21 & Leatherwood, Moore School and CR 23, as well as Moore School Road.

"Anyone who has questions should feel free to contact the Howard County Road & Bridge Department at 432‐264‐2280 between 7:30 a.m. & 4 p.m."
