Big Spring Steer tennis team edges Greenwood

Staff Writer

The Big Spring Steers narrowly came out on top last night at Figure 7 Tennis Center in Comanche Trail Park by defeating the Greenwood Rangers 10-8. The girls team swept all their matches and a single boys match win by freshman Blade Franks put the Steers over the top.

After years of tennis being dominated by the boy’s side, the girls have been the driving force of the 2016 team.

“I am seeing some positive things, but we are going to have to improve a lot this year. We have a lot of inexperience and new players moving up to fill the top spots. Our number one boy, Noe Arguello, has been out with a back injury, forcing everyone to move up and scrambling our doubles line-ups. We are going to have to hustle and adjust quickly. We have a strong crop of freshmen this year. If they work hard, we will become much more competitive.”
