Billye June (B.J.) Crownover Rogers

Billye June (B.J.) Crownover Rogers passed away April 11, 2013. She was born in Electra, Texas, on Oct. 24, 1930, and will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the Loraine cemetery near other members of the Crownover family. She was formerly from Big Spring and Loraine, Texas, but has most recently resided in Portland, Texas, until her death.B.J. graduated from Crane High School where she was a drum majorette, attended Sul Ross University and acquired several certifications in accounting as well as counseling for drug and alcohol abuse. She retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in 1998.She was a member of Grace Parish Episcopal Church in Port Lavaca, Texas, where she served as church secretary for years. She also had worked for Calhoun County Emergency Fund, Red Cross and Crisis Hotline.She was a proud member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Known for living life to its fullest, in her later years she chose to guide countless souls down a path of recovery from drug and alcohol abuse, showing them choices of love and light. She was a safe haven to many, loved very much and will certainly be missed by those who truly knew her.B.J. was preceded in death by her parents, William Riley (Bill) and Gladys Josephine (Joan) Crownover; brother, Ronny Wayne Crownover; and son, Charles Lee Crawley.She is survived by a sister, Jana Kay Lanceley; children, Antonia J. Hawke, Jana Kim Crowley and Jamie Carol Armstrong; grandchildren, Kasey Lynn Cross, Stephanie Renee Boen, Sara Ryan Crowley, Justin Scott Crowley, Courtney Leigh Armstrong, Charles Evan Crawley and Anita Noelle Crawley; 10 great-grandchildren; and several cousins (locally, Doris Henderson of Loraine and Susan Farr of Colorado City), nieces and nephews.Paid obituary
