BSISD to reconfigure elementary schools

Big Spring ISD announced major reconfigurations of its K-4 elementary campuses for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year this morning.
According to a press release from the district's community relations office, the district will be converting its four elementary schools to cater to specific grade level schools.
“Moss and Marcy Elementary schools will become kindergarten through second grade campuses,” Superintendent Chris Wigington said in the release. “Washington Elementary School will become a third grade only campus, and Goliad Elementary School will become a fourth grade only campus.
“We believe this reconfiguration will allow us to better serve our students by streamlining our grade level instruction through a strategic reallocation of our instructional staff,” he continued. “The reconfiguration will also allow the district to mitigate the unintended consequences of the many intra-district transfers that occur throughout each school year.”
No changes are expected to the middle school, junior high, or high school, the release said.
